Tens of millions of Americans suffer from some form of dry eyes. Dry eye syndrome can develop at any age, although likelihood increases with age. The most common symptoms include burning, itching, irritation, and watering. If allowed to progess far enough, dry eye syndrome even begins to blur your vision. Additionally, dry eye syndrome can make contact lens wear uncomfortable or unbearable.
Eyes may become dry if the tear glands fail to produce an adequate amount of tears, if the consistency of the tears change, or if the ratio of the different ingredients of tears changes.
A tear evaluation allows us to determine the cause(s) of an individual's dryness and leads to a treatment plan specific to each case. Most medical insurance plans allow for this type of service.
